DB Cargo starts using RouteLint after successful test
DB Cargo is the first freight transport company in the Netherlands to start using RouteLint after a successful trial period. RouteLint is an app that helps train drivers to operate a train ‘smarter’. This results in improved safety, sustainability and punctuality.
The app runs on a tablet and has already been used in passenger transport. The information shown to the driver comes directly from the ProRail systems and is therefore always up-to-date. The app provides drivers with up-to-date information about tracks, switches and signals. This allows them to anticipate faster and better to what is happening further on the track.
Tool
The use of RouteLint is not an obligation and the signal images along the track always remain leading, but DB Cargo indicates that the application is considered “a very useful tool”. With RouteLint, a train driver can see -in real-time and ten route steps ahead- the track occupancy, which trains enter, exit or cross and which trains are delayed. The driver can adjust his driving behavior based on this information.
On the busy Dutch rail network, this means less frequent unnecessary stops and acceleration. And that leads to lower energy consumption and better flow. RouteLint also contributes directly to rail safety because the chance of a driver approaching a red light is smaller.
