Rail Cargo Group to add 600 MOBILER wagons to their fleet

The Austrian national rail freight company Rail Cargo Group (RCG) partnered up with Swiss rail rolling stock leasing company MFD Rail. The agreement includes up to 600 multimodal container carrier wagons designed with RCG’s MOBILER configuration, which allows the transfer of containers between road and rail without the need for cranes or sidings.

The first batch of 100 wagons is already being deployed for waste disposal services. The next one is expected in 2024. This initiative is in line with the so-called Waste Management Act, enforced by the Austrian government since the beginning of 2023 to move more waste along the railways. To this end, RCG invested 75 million euros to purchase new MOBILER containers and underframes.

The RCG’s MOBILER technology uses a special container sliding system to transfer containers between trucks and trains more quickly, with less workforce and equipment involved. “The technology works thanks to the interaction between the MOBILER container, the MOBILER truck and the Sggmrrss-y wagon”, the Austrian company explained. There are currently four types of MOBILER containers: grain containers, bulk boxes, 30ft Multitainers and 30ft Halftainers.
