Deutsche Bahn (DB) has officially started the sale process of its logistics subsidiary DB Schenker. Potential buyers were invited via an advertisement in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, 19 December, to express their interest before noon on 12 January 2024.

The company’s value, which has over 75,000 employees in 130 countries, is currently estimated at around 12 to 15 billion US dollars. That is about five billion euros less than two years ago during the coronavirus crisis.

Deutsche Bahn indicated more than a year ago that it was investigating a sale of DB Schenker to reduce the rail group’s high debt burden. A few months ago, the supervisory board decided to prepare a sales process.

Interested parties

Three investment banks have now been selected for this purpose: Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank. Among the possible buyers are the freight forwarders DHL and the Danish DSV. Recently, the investment fund ADQ from Abu Dhabi also joined the bidders list.

In addition, the shipping companies MSC and Maersk and the investment funds Carlyle Group and CVC Capital are also mentioned as potentially interested. Other fund names circulating on the international exchange floor are Advent International and Blackstone.

Analysts say DB Schenker is the last major global network forwarder still for sale. DB has not yet announced exactly when the sales process will be concluded, but it is expected sometime in the second half of next year.

For sake of railways, now max. transparency has to be provided for!
All other, the robust modes (those resilient and redundant) upgrade, for added load and lower costs, etc…
By some reason, however, at railways
old standards, known Root of symptoms, of costly maintenance, noise, etc., all such is allowed and obstacles, now virtually cemented.
A shift, a New Old Railway is needed!
