Doubling rail freight’s market share is about meeting basic requirements

One of Europe’s fundamental objectives regarding transport decarbonisation is to double rail freight’s market share by 2050. The target has been questioned by many, like the European Court of Auditors, but the industry still believes in it. Low market shares in European countries are currently seen as an opportunity for more growth. However, this opportunity should be examined in conjunction with the growth rates noticed, for instance, in Poland or Italy.
