GTS, one of the leading Italian intermodal players, has joined forces with logistics company Codognotto Group. The partnership will now allow GTS to carry out rail freight services to and from Poland. Moreover, intermodal services between northern and southern Italy are expected to increase as well.

“The traction of the Piacenza-Gliwice train is serviced by our GTS Rail with 8 trips a week but we are ready to increase them up to 14”, said Massimo Marra, Sales and Project Manager at GTS. The convoys will transport 32 containers, mostly loaded with food, beverages, furniture, and steel products. According to the two companies, this collaboration should favour the shift of over 50 thousand tons of goods from road to rail.

The increase of services between northern and southern Italy are made possible by GTS’ takeover of operations at the logistics terminal Interporto Campano, 30 kilometres east of Naples, which occurred in January. Codognotto Group has also been spending significantly to boost intermodality over the past two years. As the company claimed, over 10 million euros have been invested in “digitilisation and special vehicles dedicated to combined road-rail transport”.
