Skoda to retrofit 110 Lineas locomotives with ETCS
Skoda has recently acquired the majority of shares in The Signalling Company (TSC) from Lineas and ERMTS Solutions, a company specialising in railway testing. One of the projects picked up by the company is to retrofit 110 Lineas locomotives with Class B signaling systems and ETCS.
A spokesperson from Lineas told RailFreight.com that “the main focus will be in 2025; we want all locomotives to be ready by 14/12/2025”. TSC is a joint venture launched by Lineas in collaboration with ERTMS Solutions. As Lineas specified, the transaction entailed Skoda acquiring 93,9 per cent of TSC’s shares, with the remaining 6,1 per cent staying in the hand of the current CEO and COO of TSC.
This is not the first large-scale initiative involving Lineas and the equipping of ETCS on its locomotives. In 2020, for example, the company announced that 88 locomotives would be retrofitted with ETCS. TSC also carries out this project. The first locomotives from this batch are expected to start rolling in 2024, with their completion set for 2025.
