TransContainer has signed a three-party cooperation agreement with two Chinese companies, targeting the development of container transit traffic between China and Europe.

The agreement was signed with companies Shandong Jitie Land Port Group Limited, a part of Jinan Railway Bureau of the Chinese Railways, and Qingdao New Port Industrial And Logistics Development Co., Ltd., operator of Qingdao dry port of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) demonstration zone. The three-party cooperation includes projects that will be realised in a five-year timeframe.

Creating new hubs

The collaborating companies “will consider increasing the volumes of freight traffic to Europe as well as the higher efficiency of land border crossing points through cooperation with the Chinese Railways on the schedule slots provision for trains departing from the joint cargo consolidating hub in Qingdao,” explains TransContainer.

This means that they will try to boost traffic between China-Europe by putting more containers on trains while making border-crossing procedures simpler and faster in cooperation with the Chinese Railways. On top of that, they will use Qingdao as their joint consolidating hub, meaning that most of the cargo volumes will start their joint rail trips from there. “The parties intend to create the hub within five years after signing the agreement,” mentions TransContainer.

Finally, as part of the broader agreement, in the next five years, the three partners also aim to create Chinese-European and Chinese-Russian train maintenance centres in the demonstration zone of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
