DB’s green fuel search now focuses on ammonia hydrogen engines
Deutsche Bahn (DB) is collaborating with Australian energy group Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) to turn diesel engines into ones running on ammonia and hydrogen which will be used for rail freight, as a DB spokesperson told RailFreight.com. “Overall, both companies are investing a mid-six-digit amount in the development project,” said DB. The initial phase of the project will focus on modifying diesel engines used on locomotives and traction vehicles. “The tests are currently being conducted at Ammonigy’s workshop near Cologne,” the spokesperson added.
