Belarusian Railways has presented a new mobile app, allowing rail freight operations to become fully digital. The app comes after the implementation of the electronic document in transit transportation on the Latvia-Belarus-Russia corridor.

The launch of the app was reported by Belarusian media site Belta. The app is powered by a mobile platform subsystem operating as part of the computerised system for digital process flow in freight transportation, the website noted.

Digital freight operations

The app is suitable for all parties involved in rail freight operations. The mobile app allows users to view, sign, and authorise digital documents on a mobile device. Depending on their role in the logistics chain, the users can ‘mix and match’ the functions of the IT tool. Belarusian Railways clients can use the app for free, the website reports.

Belarusian Railway and Latvian Railway jointly implemented the electronic document in December 2018. It is applicale in transit transportation of empty private freight wagons between Latvia and Russia via Belarus. The Latvia-Belarus-Russia corridor became the second transit international route with digital invoices on the 1520-millimetre-gauge network. Belarusian Railways is regarding it as a next step in the digitalisation of freight transportation. This solution allows for optimising and facilitating the interaction between carrier and customers.
