The process of private operators taking over contracts and services given up by Fret SNCF as part of its economic rehabilitation is not all laughs and smiles. It is a challenging situation where companies are forced to deal with equipment and personnel shortages before operating the recently opened routes. “A new balance needs to be found”, comments Solène Garcin-Berson, the new general delegate of the French Rail Association (AFRA).
