China’s new 50-foot containers unlikely to be used on Silk Road

China has started using 50-foot containers for rail freight transportation. Currently, this is the largest container size in the Chinese logistic market, weighing 36 tonnes. Compared to the 40-foot container, the 50-foot container has a 50 per cent increased capacity, reaching 114,4 cubic metres, with a maximum load limit of 30,85 tonnes. However, it is unlikely that this type of container will be used in Eurasian supply chains.
