In the UK, there is growing speculation that the Borders Railway, which currently runs from Edinburgh to Tweedbank in Scotland, may be extended by sixty-six miles (105km), all the way to Carlisle, across the border in England. Campaigners have been highlighting the potential benefits to both rail freight and passenger traffic. Now a local elected representative has taken the cause to the Scottish government.
