Rail freight transport in the EU recovered slightly in 2021 after two years of decline. New figures published by Eurostat on Monday 31 October revealed that rail freight volumes went up by 8.7 per cent compared with 2020, reaching almost the high level of 2018, at 399 billion tonne-kilometres (tkm).
