SNCF Fret goes digital with Everysens collaboration
Arkema, SNCF Fret, and Everysens launched a tripartite project aimed at improving rail freight traffic performance through data comparison. The project aims at providing real-time updates on estimated time of arrivals (ETA) and identifying immobilisation patterns.
The data gathered by SNFC Fret and Everysens for Arkema are different and complementary. SNCF Fret provides declarative data from the field and the business. On the other hand, Everysens offers automated real-time data.
The project specifics
The data for this project was gathered from a 3-month-long observation of the Gent-Saint Avre route. During the first phase, Arkema made its real-time GPS data available to SNCF Fret for comparisons that could allow for better rail flow management and quicker response times in case of problems. SNCF Fret’s declarative data was then compared with Everysens’ real-time data.
During the second phase, the focus shifted toward comparing theoretical and actual performance results. Through this cross-referencing process, it became possible to measure effective traffic time as well as to identify immobilisation patterns.
Yves Antoine, Director Global Logistics Procurement at Arkema, claimed that results look promising. “This project will enable us to implement proactive operational management with our partners, to identify the locations impacting the performance of the transport, and to have reliable and contextualised data”, he commented.
Edouard Laverny, SNCF Fret Sales & Marketing Director, highlighted that the tripartite project will allow transit times to be reduced. Dr. Youness Lemrabet, CEO of Everysens, stated that the company is planning on expanding this project to all Arkema’s flow.
The partnership
Arkema is one of the biggest users of insulated wagons in France. The company ships over 4,000 insulated rail wagons operated by Fret SNCF every year. Arkema has started a collaboration with Everysens in October 2020 to manage rail logistics in real-time. This is possible thanks to the efforts from Everysens in equipping Arkema’s fleet with GPS devices to get a more accurate and reliable ETA that can be updated in real-time.
