Transit traffic through Ukraine to and from the Polish border will be resumed. That was the biggest news of this week, although an official date for the reopening of this route is yet to be announced. Politics is playing a role in other countries too, such as in Lithuania and Belarus. We discuss the news of this week in RailFreight Fridays at 1pm CET.

Although officials are negotiating a deal in Ukraine and Poland as we speak, the issue is not yet resolved in Lithuania and Belarus. On the contrary, Belarus has threatened to ban trains from Lithuania, after the Baltic country banned the transport of Belarusian fertilisers through its territories.

But there is a reason for celebration as well. In China people are currently celebrating the Chinese New Year, which for many people means a long well-deserved vacation. At the same time, China saw its 50,000th train depart in the direction of Europe. And RailFreight.com has reason to celebrate too, as we have welcomed the 10,000th LInkedin follower!
