dual-drive 111DE locomotives

PCC Intermodal and Pesa Bydgoszcz, a Polish manufacturer of railway vehicles have signed a contract for the delivery of three new electric locomotives of the GAMA platform. The dual-drive 111DE locomotives will be deployed in Poland for the domestic operations of PCC.

To be precise, the Pesa locomotives will be put into operation on the route between the Polish ports of GdaƄsk and Gdynia and the most important economic regions of the country. They will be seen on the tracks as soon as next summer. The contract covers the production of the electric vehicles, as well as certification for operation in Poland and the required services.

First step taken

“We are very pleased that the tender for the delivery of locomotives met with great interest from contractors. Finally, this Polish manufacterer submitted the most advantageous offer. We believe that the experience and quality of PESA products will help us in further developing the intermodal transport system in Poland and movingemore and more loads from roads to rail in the most efficient way”, Dariusz StefaƄski, CEO of PCC Intermodal said.

“With the first step – signing the contract, successfully done, we look forward to going ahead so within around a year’s time, we could start operations with the 111E-Gama locomotive. You cannot develop intermodal transport if not working with highlyavailable and reliable vechicles. You cannot promote ecological solutions if your partners/service providers do not aim for the same. Together with Pesa we approach the next level of our
product development”, said Adam Adamek, Vice-President of PCC Intermodal.

GAMA platform

PESA is consistently developing the GAMA platform. In addition to the 111Ed, 111E and 111Db locomotives already in operation in Poland, it is now producing a dual-drive 111DE locomotive.

“This unit will be adapted to operation both under the traction network and on non-electrified lines. In autumn, we will also start tests of the first Polish shunting locomotive with a hydrogen drive. Its premiere will take place at the Trako Fair in September”, announced Maciej Maciejewski, vice president, sales director of PESA.
