Total goes digital for its rail operations in Germany

The multi-energy group Total has signed a contract with IT company Everysens to deploy its Transport Management System software powered by artificial intelligence. Total transports millions of tonne-kilometres of goods per year from its production sites to its storage depots and end customers, and wants to digitalise its transport planning processes.

Everysens and Total will start their collaboration in Germany, an important hub for Total’s rail logistics in Europe, before extending the deployment to the rest of Europe, once the business gains have been confirmed.

Rail dedicated

The Transport Management System of Everysens is a rail-dedicated solution, assisted by Artificial Intelligence. Everysens enables its transport suppliers to manage the entire transport chain in a collaborative manner by sharing information in real time.

Today, rail transport requires synchronisation between a dozen different players and IT tools to centralise all the information needed for planning. This data compilation is often manual or oral, and therefore time-consuming, the IT firm explains. “This first deployment with Total in Germany is a strong indication of the level of industrialisation of our solution”, Youness Lemrabet, CEO of Everysens adds.

Better plan shipments

“With Everysens’ solution, we are digitising a complex process to plan our product shipments by rail. This simplifies the collaboration between many stakeholders, internally with our production site, our depots and externally with our multiple partner rail companies and of course with our customers”, explains Youri Trinh, director of supply sales and optimisation of Total Germany.

“This will enable us to plan, execute and monitor our logistics operations more efficiently and to optimise them. Ultimately, we want to better satisfy our customers while optimising our logistics costs.”
