From mid-December Lineas will take its Xpress trains from Antwerp to Austria with two new services. One connects the Belgian hub to Wolfurt, while another links Antwerp to Wels and Vienna. In total, 12 additional train lines include the Austrian cities to the network of Lineas, which includes the large port areas of Antwerp, Zeebrugge, Ghent and Rotterdam.

The service Antwerp-Wolfurt will depart three times a week in each direction. It links to the Vorarlberg terminal in Wolfurt. In addition, 6 mixed trains (3 in each direction) with conventional and combined shipments will run the Antwerp – Wels – Vienna South and Bratislava route.

Wider networks

The Austrian terminals are all operated by TSA, which operates the 7 terminals of ÖBB Infrastruktur. “It is gratifying that with Lineas we have been able to bind a modern company from the rail freight sector to us. The additional 12 train connections are an order for us to handle our terminal logistics services in the usual good quality and with commitment for our customers”, commented TSA division manager at ÖBB Infrastruktur Renate Glisic.

Green Xpress Network is Lineas’ flagship product providing daily rail connections between Belgium and major European hubs, combining different types of cargo into one train. With these bundled loads, Lineas aims to capitalise on the strengths of rail: the sustainable transportation of large volumes over average/long distances and with a high frequency. There are currently more than 20 connections within the network.
