EU and Spain at odds about favouring rail over road

Spain is negotiating with the European Union (EU) to unlock the funds included in the country’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), and rail freight is playing a crucial role. The EU wants Madrid to implement new tolls for road freight in 2024 in order to promote the use of railways. On the other hand, the Spanish Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, wants to discard these measures and pledged that rail freight will be boosted through other initiatives.
