Fun facts about E-commerce between China and Europe
While economic recession hits most sectors hard, cross-border e-commerce is experiencing drastic growth. Due to travel restrictions in various countries during the pandemic, the ‘home economy’ has emerged, and online shopping has become the first choice of more and more people. This is certainly good news for the rail freight industry.
The Netherlands is ranked as the fifth largest e-commerce market in Europe, with a market size of 26,6 billion euros in 2020, and with 95 per cent of the population having had an online shopping experience, spending 929 euros per capita online. What’s worth mentioning is that, according to the 2021 IPC (International Post Corporation) market survey of cross-border e-commerce consumers, 37 per cent of Dutch online consumers made their most recent online purchase with a seller from China. And China, the pioneering country in e-commerce, has reached over 1,31 trillion euros of online deals.
Cooperation
However, what drives the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce between China and Europe, specifically the Netherlands, is not only the purchasing power of consumers but also the collaboration among supply chain participants in various aspects such as e-commerce platforms, parcel transportation and delivery, customs clearance and taxation, and overseas warehouse management.
Therefore, to further promote the cooperation and communication between China and Europe in terms of cross-border e-commerce policies and practices, a webinar on cross-border e-commerce and parcel shipping will be held by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chongqing, Holland International Distribution Council and RailFreight.cn.
