UK intermodal service connects the Solent and the Mersey
GB Railfreight (GBRf) has launched a new intermodal service connecting the south coast port of Southampton on the Solent Estuary and Widnes on the River Mersey in England’s northwest. The service commenced on 18 July, it runs three times a week and is scheduled to operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The enhanced connectivity between the south coast and the northwest is expected to benefit businesses and industries in both regions, with a view to encouraging a modal shift to rail.
