There has been a growing interest from Chinese consumers in Belarusian dairy products. In 2018 China was the third-largest market for export of Belarusian powdered and condensed milk. This was concluded by UTLC ERA, the main operator on the broad gauge rail network on the New Silk Road. The company is currently preparing regular dispatches of Belarusian products to various cities in China.

The joint stock company United Transport and Logistics Company – Eurasian Rail Alliance
(UTLC ERA) has shipped 64 containers with dairy products from Belarus to China in the first quarter of 2019. A total of 23 containers with milk and uncondensed cream were dispatched from Brest to Zhengzhou, Chongqing and Wuhan, and another 41 containers with powdered milk from Kolyadichi station to Chongqing.

Delivery time

The shipments were carried out in cooperation with Belintertrans – transport and logistic center (BTLC State Enterprise). The transit time on all lines constitutes twelve days. The dairy products can be transported in full container trains or in single containers as part of cargo trains. This helps to meet customer’s demands in terms of delivery speed, UTLC noted.

The first container train with milk and cream was dispatched from Kolyadichi to Chongqing as part of the GREEN STREAM initiative – a joint project between UTLC ERA and BTLC – in October 2018. Since then interest in the service has grown rapidly.
