RZD Logistics, subsidiary of Russian Railways, has launched a container service from the city of Zibo in Shandong province to Selyatino in Moscow region. The train will run via Mongolia and reach its final destination in fourteen days.

The first train has departed from Zibo on 13 November. Consumer goods and equipment have been delivered to Zibo station by trucks, where they were loaded in 36 containers. The train will travel through Mongolia across the border points Zamyn-Uud and Naushki. RZD Logistics considers to make it a regular service.

“The new route symbolises further development of cooperation between our countries. We expand the geography, taking into consideration the interests of consignors, and create new business connections, which are beneficial for all participants of the process”, said CEO of RZD Logistics Viacheslav Valentik.

According to him, Zibo was chosen as a starting point due to its industrial importance and highly developed railway infrastructure. “That makes us confident in the reliability of the new service and demand for it. Our next step involves marketing activities that should provide the new train with permanent cargo base and help to make shipments regular”, added the top manager.

New services of RZD Logistics

RZD Logistics was incorporated in RZD holding in 2010. The company organised the transportation of 61 million tonnes of cargo last year. “In 2017, we organised 44 per cent of all Russian transit and we are planning to develop this line of our business. RZD Logistics intends to significantly increase the volume of its transit shipments, optimise the current time of delivery and develop new intermodal services on the market”, noted Viacheslav Valentik.

This year, the logistics subsidiary has launched several new freight connections via the Trans-Siberian Railway. In April, the company agreed with DB Cargo to develop the China – Europe rail freight connection via the Kaliningrad region and the German port of Rostock. Also, RZD Logistics launched in September the container service between Japan and Russia. The geography of the freight links was expanded with the Chengdu – Vorsino train for transportation of Volvo cars. “RZD Logistics has significantly expanded the geography of its routes and is willing to offer clients an excellent service”, summarised the company’s CEO.
