The war on rail is intensifying. Another rail attack occurred in Russia, where a fuel-carrying freight train moving towards the Ukrainian war front was set on fire. The attack was undertaken by the Freedom of Russia Legion, a military group consisting of Russian armed forces defectors.

The attack on the fuel wagons took place in Yekaterinburg; however, the exact location is unknown. According to the volunteer legion, the action was taken at 3 pm local time in the night between 4 and 5 November. No casualties were reported; nevertheless, according to Russian media, the activists will face the charge of high treason if arrested.

The incident occurred just a few days after another guerrilla group, the Stop The Wagons movement, damaged a railway section near Novozybkov, close to the Russian border with Belarus and Ukraine, using explosive devices.

Freedom of Russia Legion

The activist group Freedom of Russia Legion was formed in March 2022, just a few weeks after the war in Ukraine erupted. Its members are primarily defectors of the Russian armed forces who teamed up with other Russian and Belarusian volunteers and joined the Ukrainian side.
