
Russia expands BAM and Trans-Siberian rail to cope with cargo flows

Russia will speed up the expansion of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and Trans-Siberian railway, thanks to the final allocation of funds for the electrification of new sections on both. As part of the project, both railways will see their capacity increased substantially in a Russian effort to make them more efficient in absorbing re-directed traffic.
