No sign of modal shift to rail in new European market monitoring

Between 2015 and 2018, the market share of rail compared to other land-based passenger transport in the EU has been stuck at around 7.8 percent. Although there has been a slight annual growth of 2.5 percent in rail traffic, a modal shift towards rail has not occurred, neither in passenger nor freight transport. These are findings of a recent monitoring report of the European rail market.
