French intermodal sector sees a mediocre outlook for 2024

France’s intermodal transport players are rather lacking in optimism when it comes to the market outlook for next year after what has been a very challenging 2023. A snapshot survey by the industry body Groupement National des Transports Combinés (GNTC) showed that 90 per cent of its members see the economic climate worsening this year.

Intermodal, yes – when railway equals with other modes! (All other modes, those resilient and redundant, decisively upgrade for added load and lower costs, etc.)
With load as the edge and when STAX32 should be min., regrettably railways does not withstand the modest STAX22,5, etc.
As not future proof (with safety factor below 1, current construction work, at TEN-T, etc., is “cementing” and devastating.
A shift, a New Old Railway is needed!
