Contargo launches Rotterdam-Basel rail service
Contargo AG’s new shuttle between Rotterdam and the German town of Well am Rhein on the Swiss border creates a vital connection between the North Sea port and the industrial region around Basel.
The ‘Basel Westport Shuttle’, which takes 18 hours, leaves the DUSS Terminal in Weil am Rhein on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday en route to Rotterdam, and makes the return trip on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The shuttle will stop at the CTT Pernis Terminal in Rotterdam, which has a direct connection with the container terminals at Maasvlakte via the PortShuttle service.
Frequency
The container train has a capacity of 88 TEU and carries both maritime and continental freight. It is also used for tank cars and bulk cargo. Contargo said that it will be keeping a close eye on capacity utilisation as it considers plans to increase the service’s frequency.
