German rail logistics firm VTG Aktiengesellschaft has elected Dr Jost Massenberg as new chairman of the board. He replaces Dr Willhelm Schieder, who stood down on December 31 after 10 successful years at the helm. Dr Massenberg has been a board member since 2006, and since 2013 also CEO of Benteler Distribution International GmbH.

Dr Heiko Fischer, CEO of VTG Aktiengesellschaft, said: “I am very pleased that we have a new Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Dr Massenberg, who has known the company and our industry for many years. This gives us the necessary stability and continuity in times of change, which is of great importance for strategic and long-term decisions in our business.

Successful development

“At the same time, I would like to thank Dr. Scheider for the trust-based oversight and cooperation and his unwavering support of our development initiatives over the past ten years. Without his experience and advice, the successful development of VTG would have been very difficult.”

VTG Aktiengesellschaft is one of Europe’s most forward-thinking rail freight companies, with a fleet comprising more than 80,000 cars. It recently announced plans to use solar power to digitise the fleet, by installing cutting-edge telematics. It is also currently involved in a joint research project with DB Cargo to examine the future potential for energy-efficient freight wagons.
