EU’s 1.8 million Euros for Polish rail wagon noise reduction
Die Deutsche Bahn wird die Aktivitäten zum Lärmschutz weiter verstärken und 2016 die Umrüstung ihrer Güterwagen auf leise Bremssohlen deutlich beschleunigen. Bis Ende des Jahres werden 50 Prozent der Flotte von DB Cargo mit der so genannten Flüsterbremse ausgestattet sein, die eine deutliche Reduzierung des Schienenlärms bewirkt.
A European Union transport programme has awarded 1.8 million Euros to modernise rail freight wagons in Poland in a bid reduce noise for people living close to the rail lines. It is part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme, which is being managed by the EU’s Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA).
This particular freight scheme is just one of 10 new projects aimed at improving the Polish rail, road, air and maritime infrastructures, and highlights how Poland is becoming a major beneficiary of the programme. The latest funding award was announced by Jerzy Kwieciński, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economic Development.
Programme of support
Three of the funded projects will receive nearly a total of 478 million Euros for modernisation of railway lines across the national network, including the E75 (338 million), E30 (90 million) and E65 (95 million) lines. These new projects bring the CEF’s programme of support to the Polish transport sector to 4.2 billion Euros, while total project costs have been 5.5 billion Euros. So far, 41 CEF-funded project grant agreements have been signed with Poland, most of them (22) in the rail sector.
