Union Pacific on the way to large electric locomotive fleet

US Railway company Union Pacific has ordered 20 battery-electric locomotives for testing in yard operations in the US, with the first units set to arrive on site next year. The purchases include 10 EMD Joule locomotives from Progress Rail and 10 FLXdrive battery-electric locomotives from Wabtec Corporation, and are part of a combined investment in yard infrastructure valued at over US$100 million (87.5 million euros).
