Dove Holes, the limestone quarry deep within the High Peak district of England’s northwest, could be set for a massive expansion of operations. Plans have been submitted which, if approved, will make the quarry an even greater supplier of raw materials to the construction boom in the UK. Moreover, thanks to rail freight, that step-change in productivity could be achieved without impact on the transport infrastructure or the outstanding natural environment of the region.
