New horizons for CargoBeamer with wagon production facility in Germany
Intermodal logistics provider CargoBeamer expands its activities by opening a wagon production facility in Erfurt, Germany. The German company will start producing proprietary intermodal wagons in early 2023.
Cargobeamer is also entering the market of wagon production, enriching the spectrum of its services. The company seems to be taking a step towards offering more comprehensive solutions and working independently by combining its technology and own wagons.
“The proprietary wagons are designed for the intermodal transport of semi-trailers and other loading units by rail. Their construction of a steel frame and a loading pallet enables horizontal, parallel, and automated loading of all kinds of loading units in a CargoBeamer terminal. While no additional conversions are needed on the clients’ trailers”, says the company.
Historic location
CargoBeamer’s wagon production facility will be located in Erfurt, not too far from Leipzig, where the company is headquartered. The 3,000 square metres facility that used to be a locomotive manufacturing location during the 20th century will be modernised, and its old rail connection with the railway network will be reactivated. CargoBeamer expects around 500 wagons to be produced there annually.
“We have discovered that production capacities for intermodal wagons in Europe are no longer sufficient for our plans in recent months. Therefore, we have decided to carry out the final assembly of our freight cars ourselves. Our first manufacturing facility expands our know-how, allows us to counter market fluctuations and capacity bottlenecks in production actively, and thus ensures our growth ambitions for the coming years.”
