Lineas’ Antwerp-Lyon line goes intermodal
As per 1 July, Lineas adds intermodal volumes to its regular train service between Antwerp and Lyon. The Lyon Xpress runs back and forth three times a week between the main hub of the rail freight operator in Belgium and the Port Edouard Herriot terminal in Lyon. In addition, Lineas strengthens the stability and punctuality of the connection by deploying the Lineas France team on a larger part of the route.
“The Lyon Xpress has been an established rail freight service within our pan-European Green Xpress Network for several years. There was a lot of interest from our customers to put intermodal loads on this route and I am pleased that we can achieve this today. This renewed Xpress now transports all types of cargo between Lyon and the rest of Europe in a simple, reliable and flexible way”, said Lars Redeligx, Chief Commercial Officer at Lineas.
Intermodal network
Customers can smoothly transport their intermodal and conventional loads from Lyon to Antwerp, and from there to deep-sea connections or the rest of the European hinterland via the Green Xpress Network. Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Port of Antwerp: “Lyon is one of our focus areas in the hinterland. We are working on the development of frequent rail connections to and from the Port of Antwerp. Thanks to the Lyon Xpress, shippers from Lyon can reach Antwerp quickly and efficiently, improve their export and import activities to overseas destinations and benefit from the maritime and logistics services in the Port of Antwerp. Our main objective is to strengthen rail connections to and from the main European economic hubs. ”
Christian Heimburger, President of Lyon Terminal: “We are delighted to develop this partnership with Lineas. The port of Lyon Edouard Herriot is located in the heart of the agglomeration of Lyon, a dynamic and industrial region that generates significant flows of goods. The Lyon Terminal teams will support this new connection, which will allow us to develop volume exchanges between Antwerp and Lyon using the benefits of multimodality at the service of our customers. ”
