A new direct rail freight line between the Austrian hub of Wels and the German Baltic Sea port of Lübeck has been launched by Rail Cargo Group. The service is called TransFER and runs twice a week in both directions.

As the largest Baltic Sea port in Germany, the port of Lübeck is a central hub between the economic metropolises of Western and Central Europe and the rapidly developing Baltic Sea region. From Wels, RCG offers services to Italy, Switzerland, Southeastern Europe, Greece and Turkey.

Reduced transit time

From now on, forwarders from the Alpine region will reach Scandinavia directly and reliably on the environmentally friendly rail, the ÖBB subsidiary noted. With the new service, the transit times to and from the Baltic Sea port have been reduced.

Moreover, it serves combined transport within Austria and also towards northern Germany, the operator said. “Even for optimal hinterland and antenna connections, the direct connection is a high priority.” The product TransFER Wels-Lübeck also offers common ferry connections via the port of Lübeck.
