Dutch topman Pier Eringa becomes new CEO Transdev Netherlands

Pier Eringa, CEO of Dutch infrastructure manager ProRail will start as the CEO of Transdev the Netherlands per 1 September. Transdev is a mobility solutions provider of bus, train, taxi and ambulance transport. Eringa revealed his intention to leave ProRail last year, when it became clear that it would be transformed from a private company into an independent administrative body. Eringa indicated that he did not want to run the railway company as a public organisation.

The ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management announced in March this year that it would be looking for a director to succeed Eringa. With the transformation of the railway company, the company’s manager falls under the responsibility of the ministry. In this way, the ministry expects it can better justify itself to the House of Representatives and to do more on the finances and performance of ProRail. The transformation must be completed in 2021. It is not yet known whether a successor has been found for Pier Eringa.

Improve position of Transdev

“In recent years I have worked with great pleasure and pride at ProRail. With this career switch I will do everything in my power to further strengthen the position of the international mobility company Transdev in the Netherlands”, Eringa said in response to the appointment. “Transdev has a daily impact on the mobility of many users. Moreover, the organisation really makes a difference in society thanks to new developments in areas such as Zero Emission and Mobility as a Service.”

Together with Eringa, Transdev wants to continue leading the way with “a cost-efficient operation of taxi, ambulance transport and public transport by bus and train”. “With Pier we have attracted a man with an enormously broad network and a lot of knowledge about public transport and the public domain. We are confident that under his leadership we will achieve our ambitious goals in the areas of operations, innovation and customer focus”, said Christian Schreyer, managing director and president of Transdev Northern and Central Europe.

Career

Pier Eringa has been in charge of ProRail since March 31, 2015. Before that he held top positions at the police and Dutch Railways, as director of the Albert Schweitzer hospital and as supervisor at the DUtch Soccer Bond KNVB. Under his leadership, performance on the Dutch track has improved.
