The Spanish port of Seville is continuing to grow in handled merchandise as the MSC-owned rail freight company Medway has decided to double its rail freight services. It will now run six weekly trains between the ports of Seville and Sines (Portugal. Initially, these were three weekly lines.

This upgrade is due to demand from existing clients, who requested for an increasing in the service frequency. As a result, the handled volumes in the Andalusian port is to experience a notable increase in H2 2019. Medway plans to offer two trains daily later on. It has also opened a new commercial office at the port, now owning a total of three offices in Andalusia.

Azuqueca de Henares and Bilbao

Meanwhile, Medway has strengthened its rail freight service between the port of Seville and Bilbao (Basque region) and between Seville and Azuqueca de Henares (Castile-La Mancha), crossing Abroñigal station (Madrid). There are seven trains per week between Madrid and Azuqueca de Henares. In line with this, Medway offers an additional multimodal service to ship containers in the Andalusian port to the Canary Islands, the main cargo destiny for this logistics hub.

Finally, there are six trains between Seville and Bilbao. The axis Seville-Malaga runs through the main consumption area in Southern Spain and, at the same time, an important agricultural region and exporter. MSC has developed several multimodal services in Seville, Cadiz and Malaga ports, taking advantage of its purchase of the Portuguese rail freight operator Medway.
