Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has established a direct link between Vienna and Scandanavia. Four times a week a multimodal service runs between the Austrian capital and Trelleborg, the southernmost city in Sweden.

Trelleborg is also the southernmost port of Scandinavia. It is considered the gateway between Scandinavia and Central Europe. The ferry port of Trelleborg is a central transshipment point between ship and rail. From Rostock in Germany, a ferry service connects to the Scandanavian hub.

Ferry service

From the central shunting station in Vienna, a train now runs non-stop to Rostock and the Baltic Sea. Reloaded onto the ship, the cargo goes two times per day with a ferry to Trelleborg. From here, the distribution in single wagon traffic and thus the realisation of sustainable end-to-end logistics solutions for the entire Scandinavian region takes place, notes RCG. The ferry connection and the redistribution are handled by Green Cargo.

Shorter transport times make the railways attractive
The new service shortens transit times between Vienna and Trelleborg. Because of the continuous production chain between Vienna and Rostock and a transport time of 25 hours, logistics customers gain a decisive competitive advantage in the market, the operator notes.
