Belarus plans new container train to Romania

Belintertrans, a freight forwarder of Belarusian Railway, intends to launch a regular container train to Romania. The company is jointly undertaking the project with its foreign partners – the Slovenian subsidiary of Rail Cargo Logistics and the Ukrainian company Zahid Trans Service. The start of the container service is scheduled for the first ten days of March.

The first container train will depart from Hantsavichy station, around 250 kilometres northeast from Brest. It will consist of 124 containers to be placed on 31 fitting flatcars. The train will deliver forest products of Belarusian enterprises. The travel time between the termini is 39 hours. Belintertrans estimates annual freight traffic of the route at 120,000 tonnes.

Container trains of Belintertrans

Today, Belintertrans together with partners provides 18 container services to its customers. They can be divided into three groups. Most of the trains run via the New Silk Road and connect China with EU countries. The second group deals with the automotive industry. The container trains of this type deliver auto parts and knock-down kits between manufacturing facilities of automotive giants as KIA, Škoda, Groupe PSA, etc. The third group of the trains, Viking and ZUBR, connects the ports of the Baltic and Black Sea.
