DB Cargo BTT, the chemical and dangerous goods logistics provider of DB Cargo, has launched a new railway line between Ludwigshafen and Burghausen. The three-weeky service is ran by a ‘mixed train’, consisting of a KV-wagon and a tank car pulling the train.

With the new concept, DB Cargo particularly appeals to forwarding and transport companies wishing to transport box containers, tank containers, swaps and semi-trailers to and from Ludwighafen. In addition, from Ludwigshafen a multitude of other national and international destinations can be reached, such as Spain, France or the Netherlands.

Improved runtime

For tank car rail freight, the link with the KV train offers significantly better runtime and quality as well as reliability compared to shipment in single wagons, DB Cargo states. “The mixed-draft concept is an ideal win-win situation, both for customers in combined transport and in tank wagon traffic,” said Raimund Stüer, Board Member for Sales at the company.

The tank wagons are merged with traffic to Bavaria in Ludwigshafen and then run to Mühldorf. In Mühldorf, the tank cars are again separated from the KV-wagon to go to several receiving stations. In the opposite direction, the tank cars in Mühldorf are attached to the KV pulling part. The train then goes to the Mannheim marshalling yard. There, the tank cars are dropped off again, dissolved and transferred to the standard operation to Ludwigshafen. After the brief stop in Mannheim, the KV-wagon group continues to the handling terminal KTL, where there are many other ways of connecting the containers.
