New rail freight service connects Spain and China

The transport operator DSV has started a rail freight service to connect Zaragoza Sea Terminal in Spain with the Chinese region of Sinkiang. The train transports Spanish goods for the renewable energy industry and it stops in Germany and Poland to add more products.

The journey takes 24 days, less than half the transit time via sea freight from Algeciras, Valencia and Barcelona ports. In this way, Chinese importers now have a much faster connection to Barcelona and Madrid, the two biggest economic centres in Spain. Moreover, with the new service the average container cost will decline by around 50 per cent, according to DSV.

Added value

“DSV is working hard to offer added value with rail, truck and sea shipping containers for any kind of company. This new service from Spain to China increases the scope of choices,” the marketing manager of DSV Spain and Portugal, Iban Mas, noted. DSV has offices in several key China´s cities such as Dalian, Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nanjing, Xiamen, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, offering
complete containers on a daily basis or partial containers three times per week for SMEs.

Sinkiang is an important Chinese logistics area, sharing frontiers with Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan,Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan. It currently does not have a domestic rail freight operator supplying a complete service.
