HSF Logistics and GVT Logistics have set up a test run for the transport of fresh products between Poland and the Netherlands, hoping to establish a new railway line in the future.

According to HSF, the connection from the Dutch freight hub of Tilburg to Poland is a popular route. “The test is unique, because we move fresh goods over a long distance. This includes foodstuff that is normally transported via road”, said Marcel van Hengel, location manager HSF Logistics Nijmegen to Rail Cargo, a Dutch information centre for rail freight transport in the Netherlands.

Intermodal transport

The first huckepack trailer was put on a train to Poland on 29 May. The company pointed out that the trailers are suitable for intermodal transport as they can be lifted by a crane or stacker. The cargo is not taken out of the trailer until it reaches its final destination, preventing time loss and damages. Moreover, in this way temperature fluctuations are limited. The logistics provides hope to offer a fast, environment-friendly and cost-efficient railway service in the future.
