No more containers from Kazakhstan to China through Dostyk for the time being
Kazakhstan will temporarily stop accepting containers heading to China through the Dostyk border crossing. The infrastructure is not adequately equipped to handle the large volumes of freight, and now there are 55 trains waiting to cross into China.
Container trains are no longer welcome when heading to China at the Dostyk border crossing, says Kazakh Railways (KTZ). There is a line of 55 trains waiting to cross into Kazakhstan’s eastern neighbour, but the infrastructure cannot handle all those trains. Now, KTZ will stop accepting container trains at the border until 11 September.
On 13 August, Telegram publication LogiStan reported that there were problems at the Khorgos border crossing as well. Containers are flooding the hub, because there are not enough platforms to process them all. The situation was aggravated due to intensified construction works on the way to the Dostyk border crossing.
As a result, KTZ is also planning to reduce the amount of Chinese containers going to Europe. Freight hubs in border areas are struggling with the accumulation of trains.
