Russian Railways purchases 2,000 flatcars
Federal Freight, subsidiary of Russian Railways, has ordered 2,000 flatcars from Altaivagon. The first wagons will be delivered this year while the entire order should be fulfilled by the end of 2021.
The new order costs 5.4 billion Rubles without VAT (76.3 million Euros). According to the technical requirements, the wagons will have a minimum lifespan of 32 years and a capacity of more than 72 tonnes. It is not the first contract between Altaivagon and Federal Freight. Taking into account the previous orders, the rolling stock manufacturer should supply 3,000 flatcars to the railway company.
“Now, the wagon fleet of Federal Freight includes 9,300 flatcars. By 2025, we plan to discard 1,900 flatcars due to the end of their lifespan. To maintain the network operation scale and increase the technological efficiency of management cars, Federal Freight should obtain a sufficient rolling stock to meet customer demand”, said Leonid Voronin, First Deputy General Director of Federal Freight.
Fast flatcars
Altaivagon is one of the largest wagon producers in Russia. The company is based in Novoaltaisk, Altai Krai. It is focused on the manufacture of open wagons, flatcars and other types. At the beginning of 2016, Altaivagon certified a flatcar of type 13-2114-11. It is able to run at a speed of 120 kilometres per hour. It was recognised as the fastest flatcar in Russia. This type of wagon has been supplied to Transcontainer, a logistics and freight forwarding subsidiary of Russian Railways.
