Polish rail freight carrier PKP Cargo plans to open its own representative office in China. The mission is expected to be launched by the year’s end. The foreign office will allow PKP Cargo to intensify business relations with Chinese companies.

The representative office is a part of PKP Cargo’s development strategy adopted in November 2018. The document describes international expansion and focus on intermodal transportation. “We want to be present directly on the Chinese rail freight market. Customers expect this. Therefore, by the end of the year, we want to have a representative office or open a company directly in China”, commented Czesław Warsewicz, CEO of PKP Cargo, to the Newseria Biznes news agency. The possible location of the future office is not reported.

Terminal subsidiary

PKP Cargo also plans to improve the administration of its loading facilities. Within the group, a new subsidiary named as PKP Cargo Terminale will be incorporated. “This is mainly aimed at improving the offer addressed to the client. The company will integrate all 27 terminals owned by PKP Cargo, which will result in better management and better use of our potential. It will also allow us to offer a comprehensive, better service to our clients”, noted Warsewicz.

Currently, PKP Cargo owns 18 bulk terminals, 7 intermodal terminals and 2 combined terminals. The headquarter of the new subsidiary will be located in Medyka, close to the Ukrainian border, where the Medyka-Żurawica terminal is situated. The PKP Cargo Terminale will be the largest rail terminal operator in Poland and one of the largest one in Europe.
