The Italian port city of Genoa, which sits on a crucial European freight corridor, will host the International Union of Railways’ (UIC) 6th Global Rail Freight Conference this June.

‘Modal Integration at the service of Global Distribution’ is the theme of this year’s event, which is being held in conjunction with FS Railways Italy (Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane).

Key hub

Genoa is historically one of the most important ports on the Mediterranean, and is currently the busiest in Italy. It is also a key hub on the European Rail Freight Corridor (RFC) 1, also known as the Rhine-Alpine Corridor, which runs all the way to the Port of Rotterdam.

Various speakers will present the political and economic sectors’ perspectives, along with other stakeholders in the rail freight logistics chain, including freight operators, ports and shipping lines. They will focus on key themes such as mega trends, the drive towards modal shift, transcontinental corridors – including Euro-Asian corridors and the New Silk Roads – and innovation to boost productivity.

More information on the event, which takes place from June 27-29, will be available on via the UIC website.
