Eastbound train service from Paris to Xi’an is in operation
The New Silk Road welcomed the first eastbound train from Paris to Xi’an, carrying high-end French furniture, linen products, cosmetics and wine. On November 25, the train started its expectedly 20-day journey from Valenton terminal in Paris. After transhipment at the border of Poland and Belarus, the products will reach Xi’an and other customers all over China.
The direct connection between Xi’an and Paris started in June this year with the launch of a new westbound freight service. In November, two more drop-off points in Lyon and Bordeaux were added to the service for a more extensive network in France.
The operator Xi’an International Inland Port Multimodal Transportation Co., LTD said: “To meet the transport needs of Chinese and French enterprises, we have set up a special task group regarding the connection with Paris. We are constantly optimizing adjusting the route. Especially this year, due to the congestion along the New Silk Road, we are actively looking for alternative solutions to shorten the transit time from 40 days to 25 days. ”
France’s participation on the silk road
According to Le Figaro, France plans to make full use of the Eurasian transport opportunity by rail, as does neighbouring Germany, with the national railways SNCF expressing its confidence in this emerging freight product. As the spokesman explained, the efficiency of rail transport is outstanding in the market. “Considering the current soaring prices of sea freight and the fact that the transit time of sea shipping is twice as long as rail transport, the slightly higher price of the latter becomes acceptable. It is hoped that the frequency of Xi’an-Valenton service will increase in the future.”
Besides the connections between Paris and Xi’an, Hefei, Shanxi and other places have also launched regular trains heading to Paris. Moreover, This year, Jinhua has extended its network to another French city, Dourges. And as planned in early December, Shijiazhuang will establish a direct rail link with Valenton.
